At MLS we believe in making a positive impact in the world.  That’s why we have partnered with two exceptional charities, Cancer Research UK and Alzheimer’s Society, to contribute to their crucial work in fighting cancer and supporting those affected by Alzheimer’s disease.  Through our collaboration, we aim to help create a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families affected by these devastating conditions.

Cancer Research UK is a pioneering organisation that has been at the forefront of cancer research, prevention, and treatment for many years.  Their relentless efforts have led to ground-breaking discoveries, improved survival rates, and enhanced care for cancer patients.  By partnering with Cancer Research UK, we align ourselves with their mission of preventing, controlling, and curing cancer through innovative research, education, and patient support.

Alzheimer’s Society is dedicated to supporting people affected by dementia, including Alzheimer’s disease.  They provide vital information, care, and support services to individuals living with dementia and their families.  With their relentless advocacy, research funding, and community engagement, Alzheimer’s Society strives to improve the lives of those affected by this condition and work towards finding a cure.  We are proud to support their endeavours and contribute to their invaluable work.

How we help

MLS participates in the above charities’ free will schemes.

Will to Remember:  is Alzheimer’s Society’s free Will scheme where the Charity partners with a network of solicitors (including MLS) who are united against dementia and offer trusted legal advice to our supporters.  You can find out more about the Will to remember here:

https://www.alzheimers.org.uk/will-to-remember

In a nutshell, the Will To Remember scheme offers supporters the chance to make a free simple Will via one of their participating solicitors (like us!).   Alzheimer’s Society reimburses participating solicitors a reduced set fee upon receipt of the details of Wills completed through the Will to Remember scheme.  Our support is reflected in only charging the set fee which is usually lower than what we would have charged for a similar will outside the scheme.

How does it work?

  1. Prospective clients sign up to Will to Remember through Alzheimer’s Society.
  2. Alzheimer’s Society send the client their pack – including a Will guide, list of local solicitors and letter entitling them to a free simple Will.
  3. The client chooses a participating solicitor from the list and arranges an appointment.
  4. The appointment takes place. The solicitor provides the simple Will for free.
  5. Any other costs incurred in the preparation of the Will beyond the simple Will element are paid by the client.

Cancer Research Free Will Service

The Cancer Research Free Will Service allows anyone over 18 to easily write or update a simple Will for free.  Again, MLS will only be paid a reduced fixed fee by the Charity.

At MLS we are proud to participate in the Cancer Research UK Free Will Service since 2019.  At MLS we know that gifts in Wills breathe life into researchers’ work and account for over one-third of all funding received by the charity without which, they simply would not be able to undertake all the vital research which will one day beat Cancer.

Every gift helps so even the smallest gift will help Cancer Research UK beat cancer for future generations.  Residuary gifts, that is a share of your estate rather than a specific amount of money, are often considerably more beneficial to the charity and to your loved ones.  This is because it is more likely to keep pace with the cost of living rises over time which future proofs the charity’s ability to invest in future research, and can help, in certain circumstances, to reduce the IHT payable for your loved ones.

This is something we would always be happy to discuss with you.  You can find out more about the CRUK’s scheme here:
